A June 1975 vintage Seiko QZ Quartz 0923-8010-G on its original bracelet with a stunning sunburst dial. Powered by the Seiko Cal. 0923, this vintage Seiko QZ Quartz is in great overall condition and was recently serviced. Vintage Seiko watch measures 36 mm in diameter and only has some normal scratches from wear. What's very unique about this vintage Seiko is that on top of the Kanji date it also has a third language, another English font, bolder, and also coloured! Seiko QZ Quartz History
The first Seiko QZ Quartz appeared in the 1975 Seiko JDM catalogue. It came after the release of the SQ, QT, and QR Seiko quartz lines. It was at the 'lower-end' of the group but still not particularly affordable by the standards of the day. There were a couple important vintage Seiko QZ Quartz movements to mention: the 08QZ and the 09QZ. Both of which are related to their highers like the 38SQ or the 08QT or 08KQ. These QZ were not produced for long however as they were quickly replaced by the vintage Seiko Grand Quartz, Seiko King Quartz, and Seiko Lord Quartz lines.
Seiko History
Seiko was founded as a watch store in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori in Tokyo. By the 1890s it was producing both clocks and pocket watches as Seikosha. And in 1913 Seiko produced Japan's first wristwatch, the Seiko Laurel. Seiko had beat out several other Japanese companies, including other Tokyo clock companies like Tokyo Clock Co. and Japan Pocket Watch Manufacturing Co. By the mid-20th century Seiko produced some of its most important wristwatches that set the stage for its future. In the early 1950s Seiko produced the Seiko Super which then became the Marvel. And in 1960 Seiko released the first Grand Seiko. This marked the beginning of not only the Grand Seiko but also the King Seiko and Lord Matic lines to follow.
Then, in 1969, Seiko released the Astron, the watch that would upend the Swiss watchmaking industry. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Seiko continues to produce extraordinary quartz watches, along with many legendary vintage Seiko dive watches. In modern times Seiko continues to innovate, especially through its Grand Seiko brand.
