Longines History
Longines was founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier by August Agassiz and two partners who started producing pocket watches. Agassiz successfully used his family connections to expand to the North American market in the mid-19th century. By the early 20th century, Longines was already associated with aviation: Philip Weems and Charles Lindbergh both wore Longines during their aviation careers, Weems in particular partnered with Longines-Wittnauer to bring his new watch to market in 1929. Charles Lindbergh then created the 'Hour-Angle' watch in 1931 with Longines. Another notabe figured who owned a Longines, Einstein!
Today Longines is owned by the Swatch Group and continues to operate as a global watch brand.
